Program Coordinator
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Recruit students and volunteer tutors
• Perform initial assessment of new students and preliminary screening of potential tutors
• Deliver initial training workshop for new volunteer tutors and make available additional training
opportunities, as needed
• Match students and tutors
• Maintain tutor and student data
• Develop supportive working relationship with tutors through regular contact
• Perform ongoing evaluations of students
• Perform substitute tutoring when required
• Oversee the arrangement of tutor and/or student get-togethers
• Participate in the program planning, statistical tracking and program review process
• Interact with students, volunteers, government representatives and members of the public
Required Skills:
• Knowledge of and experience in the adult literacy field; preference given to those with experience in
the area of learning disabilities
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work as a member of a team and independently
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Experience delivering training
• Experience with MS Office software
• Excellent ability to organize workloads and set priorities in a constantly changing environment
Other Attributes:
• A strong desire to help others in a fun, rewarding and sometimes stressful environment
• Must be flexible in hours of work. Some evenings required.
• Volunteer management experience an asset
Hourly wage: To be determined
Hours: 30 hours per week (Monday-Thursday)
