Volunteer Training Opportunities
Adult Learning and Literacy (AL&L) offers three levels of literacy practitioner/tutor training in adult literacy. These are:
- Level 1: Introduction to Teaching Literacy to Adults (similar to our training for new tutors)
- Level 2: Competence in Literacy Teaching
- Level 3: Advanced Certificate in Teaching Literacy to Adults (not currently available)
Correspondence courses, Internet-based training and on-line courses are also available. Participants in training events are not obligated to take workshops for certification credit, but they may do so at their own request.

Tutors are expected to commit to a minimum of one year. Learner/tutor pairs meet a minimum of once each week for 2 hours. Tutors are matched with a learner according to availability, area of the city and other criteria.
